Few wrestling legends get as little respect from fans as Sean Waltman. He’s wrestled under many ring names, from 1-2-3 Kid, to Syxx to X-Pac. A pioneer of the fast-paced wrestling style we see today, Waltman got to see the Monday Night Wars from all angles, with him being in both the nWo in WCW and D-Generation X with WWE. He’s got into the Hall of Fame twice due to his work in factions, but as his career winds down, he’s looking to prove he’s more than fans give him credit for.
Sean Waltman Names Some Opponents
During an appearance on WWE’s Wednesday talk show The Bump, Waltman would talk about wanting to get back into the ring again. He retired from the ring in 2019, but if Terry Funk has taught us anything, it’s that retirement in wrestling isn’t always what it looks like. The drive to compete is still there, even when he retired he kept the door open.
And now said door is cracked open wide. He openly named three matches he has wanted to have in WWE, with two being centered on the NXT brand and being able to be handled in a single match. The first name mentioned was Sami Zayn, someone who he faced in Chikara a decade ago when Zayn was still known as El Generico. It is still considered one of the best matches of Waltmans career, so naturally he’ll want to run that one back.
The second name mentioned is former NXT Cruiserweight Champion and leader of Legado Del Fantasma, Santos Escobar. Escobar has been one of the best NXT has to offer, with his power based lucha libre style. Finally, Waltman would love to team with NXT Tag Team Champions, MSK. That is the match that could be taken care of all at once, as Waltman could team with MSK to take on all of Legado Del Fantasma.
A Potential Challenger For KUSHIDA?
One name that wasn’t mentioned by Waltman on The Bump, but is a possibility is currently NXT Cruiserweight Champion KUSHIDA. While KUSHIDA is entering a feud with Roderick Strong & Diamond Mine, he might still have a few open challenges left in his reign. Having Waltman answer the call would be an incredible way to bring the veteran back into the mix, and potentially bring in some viewers for NXT.
Provided Waltman can get cleared by WWE medical, there are few downsides to getting him into the ring for a few more matches. The interest is there from Waltman and fans alike, and we just need to see if Triple H will get his friend onto the show.
