WWE SmackDown is but two and a half hours away as I type this, but this article isn’t necessarily about that. It does however relate very closely to two of SmackDown’s most prevalent acts.
The New Day and the Revival have been competing with one another for most of this year, trading the WWE SmackDown Tag Team titles on a handful of occasions already. Last week, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder won an elimination fatal four way tag team match, defeating the likes of the Lucha House Party, Heavy Machinery and the tandem of Mustafa Ali & Shorty G. Per the stipulation of the match, the Revival then became No. 1 Contenders to Kofi Kingston and Big E’s tag titles yet again.
The Revival then made a point to say that they would be having a traditional, old school match to prove the merits of their philosophical leanings, proving that the traditional way is the best once and for all. Listening to that, and with TLC being the date of the match, it was easy to imagine this would then ironically become a violent, high spot centric stip match.
Sure enough, earlier today it was announced that The Revival and The New Day will be facing off in a Tag Team Ladder match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
That’s quite the promising match in my estimation! The Revival and The New Day have consistently had some really, really damn good tag matches and it was perhaps about time we started letting them explore some special stip matches. And the tag team ladder match is a classic dating back a couple of decades. Of course I don’t expect the Revival to see it that way, they’ll no doubt be furious with this!
It’s very fun to imagine this match, with a clear story in Dash and Dawson trying everything they can to keep it a tame match without any flair, to absolutely no avail.
