Over two years since the initial lockdowns from COVID-19, we are still seeing card changes come from the virus. New Japan Pro Wrestling is one company who really suffered, having effectively had their roster initially cut in half due to international talent being unable to travel to Japan. Now, in 2022 – NJPW fans are unable to see the return of Trent Beretta to the company, all due to COVID-19.
Trent Beretta Tests Positive For COVID-19, Replaced By Rocky Romero In Tomorrow’s PPV Match
We were set to see Trent Beretta make his first appearance in a NJPW ring since 2019 – before he would test positive for COVID-19. He was going to team with the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada. Having recently absorbed the AEW faction Best Friends into NJPW’s CHAOS faction, this was set to be a major match. Instead, Rocky Romero will team with Kazuchika Okada, as they face the BULLET CLUB unit of Jay White & Hikule’o.
Trent Beretta would reassure fans that he is already feeling fine – and hopes to make his way into a NJPW ring very soon. He said the following on Twitter following this announcement from NJPW.
”sorry guys. this sucks. I’ve betrayed new Japan all over again. also I feel fine now so use your well wishes on someone else.”
An Accomplished Wrestler In NJPW – With More Likely To Come
Right now, Trent Beretta is firmly in the midcard of the AEW roster. His latest big match saw him battle Samoa Joe for the ROH World Television Championship, and has also faced Adam Cole & Jay White recently. He’s yet to claim gold in AEW, but on the NJPW roster – Beretta is a four time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and one time NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champion.
Beretta is expected to become a fixture in NJPW once again, given the working relationship between the two companies. He will almost certainly be part of the upcoming Forbidden Door event – which will see the NJPW roster battle the AEW roster.
What matches do you hope to see at Forbidden Door? Will Trent Beretta be on the card? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
