WWE Superstar Elias has been on the shelf for the past few months, after being out with an ankle injury. He was last competing in early September, defeating Ali in a King of the Ring Quarter-Final bout. However he was then soon pulled from the tournament and has not competed since.
Already a member of the SmackDown roster, Elias was re-solidified as part of the blue brand after the WWE Draft. But of course he’s scantly been seen since as he’s been rehabbing his injury.
However, earlier today on Twitter he released this video:

It depicts Elias playing a song on the piano, “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. The classic song, as the name suggests, promises change and notes that it’s a long time coming. The lyrics used are below:
I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I’ve been running ev’r since
It’s been a long time, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it willIt’s been too hard living, but I’m afraid to die
‘Cause I don’t know what’s up there, beyond the sky
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
Elias was tentatively scheduled for an early November in early projections.
So it’d certainly line up well if he were cleared as of now or waiting to be cleared very soon.
It’s theoretically possible, given the timing of all this, that he could come into play at Survivor Series but it’s somewhat unlikely. There’s no secret spot on the SmackDown team and he isn’t necessarily the biggest name to be left out, but a surprise return can certainly spike you into these kinds of situations.
As a bit of a fringe possibility, there could be a chance that he is, in fact, the man behind the mascot… we can pretty surely bet that Baron Corbin’s mockery of Roman Reigns, the Big Dog, will be at ringside for this match. For whatever reason, this wacky character has been intrinsic to the build for Survivor Series, atleast as far as Team SmackDown is concerned. Odds are very, very good it will be accompanying Baron to ringside and will likely have some sort of key spot.
Elias has been paired with Baron Corbin a few times in the past, and is certainly one of the sillier, troll-leaning heels in WWE. So while it’d be fairly out-of-nowhere for him to return in this guise, it wouldn’t be entirely out of the question for a character like him. It’s also not as though a more appropriate culprit is available here…
Aside from potentially joining Baron’s feud with Roman, it seems somewhat likely to me that he will be feuding with Shorty G before too long. He repeatedly insulted him over the summer in what was meant to lead to their semi-final bout, only to be pulled before then. Not that I expect them to necessarily remember something from two and a half months ago, but it’d be in line with how they’ve booked G up to this point.
