Ember Moon Feels WWE Has Lost The Ability To Have Stories In The Undercard

Professional wrestling thrives based on two crucial aspects. Impressive in ring action, and dramatic storytelling. While WWE has many insanely talented wrestlers, rarely do you see stories being told outside of people at the top of the card. Someone like Roman Reigns will be involved in a storyline at all times, but someone like Drew Gulak? You’ll see him show up to wrestle and then vanish back into the locker room. One person who noticed this is Ember Moon, who is currently out with an Achilles injury that she suffered during a chase sequence with the 24/7 Championship. Prior to this, she was in a feud with Bayley over the Smackdowns Womens Championship which was entirely unremarkable.

“I feel like we’ve lost that ability to tell stories with the lower card“

Speaking with Booker T on his podcast, Ember Moon had the following to say.

“Now, it’s weird because we only have four guys each show that we’re constantly building up despite everyone else. Occasionally, they’ll bring an Humberto Carrillo in, but you only see one new person in that little angle and then they disappear for awhile. It’s one of those things with the storytelling and building not just those four or five building — this goes for the girls as well — but building a Akira Tozawa or Drew Gulak, so when they do face Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt.

It means something when they lose, versus them going out and having a banger of a match on Raw for no reason. Now, when I feel like I turn on the TV, when I see Drew McIntyre vs. Cedric Alexander, I don’t believe that Cedric Alexander is going to win even though he’s a phenomenal athlete and former Cruiserweight Champion. I don’t believe it because they haven’t done anything to make me care about it. He jumped off the stage once. With the roster being so big, maybe we need a rotating roster. I feel like we’ve lost that ability to tell stories with the lower card.”

It is very hard to argue with any of her points. WWE has failed to elevate their talent, and their product suffers because of this. Their roster is filled with the best talent in the world, but we only see a few people spotlighted. You could see someone get a few weeks of attention, then they vanish again. It makes it impossible to get invested in talent when they’re seen as useless of the time.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
