Tessa Blanchard recently became the first woman to ever hold the top prize in Impact Wrestling. She defeated Sami Callihan at Impacts Hard To Kill event in a great contest. This came amidst controversy resulting from Tessa Blanchard’s lack of backstage etiquette and racist remarks made in the past.
With this wave of poor press facing what was supposed to be their new top babyface, we could see a quick turnaround on the championship. Former Impact Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie wants to be the one to do this. Having just lost her championship after a 377 day reign, she is ready to prove Tessa she is better once again.
The Challenge Was Laid Down In Mexico
During the Impact Wrestling tapings in Mexico, Taya would cut a promo about how she’s the number one contender and that she’s beaten her three times in 2019. She is ready to be World Champion. She said if she became World Champion she would have done more in this company than Tessa. This is because Tessa doesn’t have a year long title reign under her belt and isn’t the longest overall champion in the 18 year history of Impact. The two brawled at it set up a tag match between Taya/Ace Austin vs Tessa/Trey Miguel.
This would be the first time a major promotions top championship would be on the line between two female talents. Impact Wrestling have always been ahead of the curve with their female talent, and this shows this will continue into the new decade.
Is Tessa Blanchard Doomed To Be A Short Reigning Champion?
One of the key steps to being successful in the modern era of wrestling is to be well liked by your peers. Tessa and her bad attitude has done the opposite of this, as her recent controversy has showed. Impact will have to address this issue eventually, be that by turning Tessa into a heel or having someone take the title off of her. By having Taya win the championship, you get a top level female wrestler as champion of your promotion but without people calling her a racist constantly. It will be interesting to see how will deal with the situation going forward.
