Monday Night Raw is fast approaching, twenty minutes to go at the time of publishing! Tonight we’ll see Kairi Sane go one-on-one with Becky Lynch! My name is Jordan Huie, writer here at the Overtimer and as always, I’ll be with you all night to give you the live recap and results from the show as they come! We have nearly as much on tap tonight as we usually do for AEW Dynamite here. This is really refreshing, basically never the case for WWE shows aside from PPVs! Granted, this last one came at the last minute, but hey! So let’s not waste any time getting into this final preview!
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Kairi Sane (Non-title)
Becky has for months been at odds with the Kabuki Warriors, particularly Asuka. In a feud that dates back to last year’s Royal Rumble, Becky has made a big deal over needing to settle her only debt as she puts it. She talks up Asuka as the most feared contender possible, someone that the WWE brass have actually been trying to protect her from. Days away from the title match finally taking place, it only makes sense that Becky take on Kairi Sane in the final stretch of the build.
But it’s a relief to see her advertised here. Kairi hasn’t wrestled on television since WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019. In the main event of that show, the Kabuki Warriors defended the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a titular TLC match. During that bout, Kairi took some pretty big bumps and ended up getting a very obvious concussion. She tried to fight on anyway but it was clear from watching her that she was not all there in the slightest. Eventually they pulled her away to the back off-screen and Asuka ended up winning all by her lonesome.
After a full month out of action, Kairi Sane returned to the ring during this past weekend’s house show loop. It’s great to have her back, I was pretty concerned. And this should be a really good match, getting Becky in fine shape for her bout with Asuka this Sunday. But of course by no measure should Kairi win this. Becky over, ahead of her title clash. They’ve done a really great job building up this match as a monumental one, easily the best built match on the card. It’d be a shame to do anything to hurt it here at the finish line.
