For weeks, we’ve had a mystery spot in the major main event of NXT TakeOver WarGames. We know Team Ciampa will be squaring off with The Undisputed Era. Tommaso Ciampa leads Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic into the battle, but that leaves a fourth partner unknown – atleast until now.
The fourth man was teased throughout the night, as someone who might show up and might not. Even as the match began we didn’t know who it was. They were the final member to come in, and only after the timer ended did he reveal himself.
But to say the least, it was a pretty massive shock. None other than former Universal Champion and NXT Champion Kevin Owens making his return to the NXT ring! And amazingly it wasn’t part of an invasion to hurt NXT, but in allying with Tomasso Ciampa’s team against the Undisputed Era!
It was by far one of the biggest pops of the night and a surreal sight to see him in that double cage, fighting against Adam Cole and co.
This interestingly comes off the heels of Triple H trying to seduce Kevin Owens to return to NXT last week. A night away from Owens being on Team Raw on opposing sides of NXT at Survivor Series, what, if any, implications are to be had here? Will Owens turn traitor and align with the black and gold brand? Or is this one huge red herring? Only time will tell…
