Robert Roode returns to the ring in a big time Tables match! It’s that time of the week again, folks. Yep, time for another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! With the Royal Rumble and the vaunted WrestleMania season fast approaching, it’s an important time for positioning. Everyone’s keeping a particularly close eye on those that gain momentum right around this point. After all, it’s fair to say that every wrestling fan wants to know how Mania’s gonna shape up.
Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and as always, I’ll be here giving you the previews for the show, as well as the live recap and results! There’s actually a fair bit on tap this go-round, not common for main roster shows. Except this week apparently, as Raw also gave me more to work with than usual… gotta appreciate it! Anyway, let’s get to it!
Tables Match: Robert Roode vs. Roman Reigns
So Roode has not wrestled in a few months, dating back to Roman assaulting him and taking him off TV. Later we learned that he had been suspended on the wellness policy. Last week, on the very day the suspension expired, he made his comeback, reuniting with King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler to attack Roman Reigns at the show’s closing. Now, in his first televised match since November, Roode takes on Roman Reigns in a fairly high stakes Tables match.
The winner of this bout will get to pick the stipulation for the Reigns/Corbin match at the Royal Rumble. I believe the Rumble will be the night that Roman finally puts Corbin away, and I think WWE’s way of doing things would see Corbin lose a match of his own choosing. And while it is an appropriate stipulation for Roode and Reigns’ history, it’s hard to see this Tables match as anything than a means for Roman to lose without being pinned. So amazingly, I’m picking Robert Roode to beat Roman Reigns here tonight. Certainly one way to punish a suspension…
