Okay, this is going to be as surprising as the pairing on Raw, but Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler deserve the push they’re getting and also to be tag team champions.
Both men are tireless workers and give their all every time they step in the ring. The main problem for Roode is rising above the other mid-carders the WWE has to be noticed, but he’s finally caught someone’s eye. Most likely, Paul Heyman’s.
History
Roode, like most of the mid-carders, were a viable talent elsewhere before the WWE signed him. While the WWE can open doors other promotions can’t, it comes with a price: starting over.
Rarely does the WWE sign someone they feel they can plug in right away unless the person has instant star credit or is a phenomenal performer. Doing this serves two purposes. One, it allows the new talent to fine tune their gimmick and grow, theoretically. And two, it severs notice to the current headliners that there’s a potential replacement waiting in the wings.
The years have show that no individual is bigger than the business, so it makes sense. The thing is, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle with so much talent on hand, and this can be the death kneel instead of a career starter.
Dolph Ziggler, on the other hand, has proven his ability time and again. Sure, he may not be winning a lot lately, but considering it’s been his job to put others over and he’s bene doing that, it’s understandable. It’s a role similar to Sami Zayn’s.
Ziggler is considered by many to be one of, if not the best, the company’s talents as he can work with anyone and make them look good.
His current schtick of “It should’ve been me!” has run its course and been toned down as of late, and he’s being rewarded for his efforts with a championship match for the Raw tag team titles.
Will they win?
Honestly, sure, why not? Story line wise, it makes sense as it’d add more drama to the Universal match later in Clash of Champions if Rollins is the one that loses the belts. It would send Strowman into the stratosphere anger-wise and can only enhance the Universal championship match, which Strowman should win (he gets the loudest pop of all and would be an awesome champion), but we all know he won’t.
It could also set off a feud between Strowman and Rollins over the title for the next few weeks. It’d be fun to see two babyfaces compete for the same title for a change, and it’d allow others to flourish.
A couple of those that would flourish would be Roode and Ziggler.
As tag team champions, they’d be fun to watch as both know how to work the camera. One way to think of them would be thinking of their idols as a tag team — Rick Rude and a young Shawn Michaels.
How could it not be awesome?
