New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) began the Road to TOKYO DOME tour ahead of the two-night Wrestle Kingdom 15 event on January 4th and January 5th at the legendary Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. The festivities continued at the Aimesse Yamanashi venue in Yamanashi, Japan in front of 692 fans. The crowd size was reduced due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) pandemic.
After another encounter with Great-O-Khan led to a loss for his team on December 11th, Empire assaulted Tanahashi’s leg, much like they did during WTL 2020, leading to the Wrestle Kingdom 15 match announcement where Great-O-Khan will wrestle Hiroshi Tanahashi during Night One on January 4th.
Hiroshi Tanahashi is synonymous with the international growth of NJPW due to his presence in the marquee scene since 2007 when first won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in a tournament match to decide a new champion against Giant Bernard on July 17, 2006.
While Ibushi won G1 Climax 30, he soon lost his right to challenge for the ‘Double Championship’ at Wrestle Kingdom 15 after losing the opportunity to Bullet Club member and former IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Intercontinental, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion “Switchblade” Jay White at Power Struggle 2020.

The second of the non-tournament tag team matches saw Bullet Club members former NEVER Openweight Champion and New Japan Cup USA 2020 winner Kenta and “Young Gun” Hikuleo take on NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lion Ren Narita and NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo Young Lion Kevin Knight.
The Finals match of the single-elimination tournament saw Super J Cup 2019 winner and Bullet Club member El Phantasmo (ELP) take on ACH. ELP made it to the finals after a victory over “All Heart” Blake Christian, while ACH defeated former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Chris Bey in the semi-finals.
The second semi-finals match of the single-elimination tournament saw Super J Cup 2019 winner and Bullet Club member El Phantasmo (ELP) take on “All Heart” Blake Christian. ELP came into the match after defeating Lio Rush in the opening round, while Blake Christian gained the upset over Rey Horus.
Both wrestlers were feeling the after-effects of their opening round match, with Chris Bey using the opportunity to work over ACH’s back as the former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion looked to put his name on the map by winning Super J Cup 2020.
