At the Royal Rumble, it was reported that there was a confrontation between Matt Riddle & Brock Lesnar backstage. Riddle has been vocal throughout his career on wanting to retire Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. Lesnar specifically told Riddle that he should quit speaking about him, as they will never work together. Many began speculating that Matt Riddle was punished for this during the Royal Rumble, being eliminated almost immediately by Baron Corbin despite being a fan favorite. This incident seems to have sparked a change within NXT, as there was a meeting held on Tuesday to address such issues.
No More Calling Out Wrestlers From RAW And Smackdown Without Their Knowledge
During the meeting, a new rule was put on the talent of NXT thanks the repeated actions of Matt Riddle. This is simply to not try and pick fights with talent from other brands, at least not without them being in on it. They don’t want situations like the one between Lesnar & Riddle, where fans are beginning to expect a match that WWE can never deliver on. Vince McMahon has a method to his madness, and he doesn’t like to make promises he is unable to follow through on. This will ensure that any Twitter beef in the future is something that both performers are actually down to bring to the screen, unlike where Lesnar refuses to work a match with Matt Riddle.
What Will Matt Riddle Do Now?
Matt Riddle is a talented wrestler, and one that will get consistently cheered by fans no matter what. His one sided Twitter feuds with legends like Brock Lesnar & Goldberg have brought him in fans, and built intrigue in his character. He will have to stick to calling out his co-workers, people who might actually respond to his tweets. We could see if Matt Riddle can actually win a Twitter feud now. Despite this, he is on the track to a NXT Tag Team Championship match, and while he isn’t liked back stage, he is a fan favorite. Fans are eager to see the Original Bro claim gold, despite his antics. Just goes to show that some people will always have fans.
