WWE NXT Results: Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne Win 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

WWE NXT Results: Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne Win 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne were an odd team on paper, but they managed to make it work better than ever expected. With their victories over Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster & Imperium members Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel, they found their way to the finals of the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. On the other side of the spectrum, we had The Grizzled Young Veterans. They defeated KUSHIDA and Alex Shelley & Undisputed Era members Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish to earn their way to the finals. They easily had the experience edge, having teamed up for years and being former NXT UK Tag Team Champions. It was set to be a fantastic final match, and that is exactly what was delivered upon. It was one of the best tag team matches of the year, but only one team left with the win.

Riddle & Dunne Win The 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

It has almost become a tradition to root for thrown together tag teams in these tournaments. Following in the foot steps of duos like Finn Balor and Samoa Joe & Aleister Black and Ricochet, the team known as “The Broserweights” were able to fight their way to victory. Grizzled Young Veterans didn’t make it easy, but the combined skill of Riddle & Dunne is hard to overcome. While Riddle has been pretty firmly a singles star, Dunne is familiar with tag team action as part of British Strong Style. They’ve been on a fantastic run, but the clock hits midnight eventually.

Do They Have Any Chance To Defeat Undisputed Era?

Their inexperience could lead to their demise at NXT Takeover Portland however. They will be facing one of the best tag teams in the world in Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly. They’re beyond a well oiled machine at this point, with them being practically telepathic in matches. You need to wrestle a perfect match to beat them, and with Riddle & Dunne being able to count their tag matches on a single hand, their Cinderella story could come to an end. On the other hand, one advantage they have is being very hard to scout. They have a few weeks to train and refine their style. Their only chance of victory relies in surprising Undisputed Era.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
