There has been a key figure from NXT missing for several months. This is the Velveteen Dream, who has been out since September due to a back injury. Many expected him to return as part of the Royal Rumble, but he was a no show. NXT has been a bit plain without him, and he has some debts to pick up. There was a cryptic promo that aired on this weeks episode of NXT. It is signalling something big for next weeks episode.
The Cryptic Promo
The promo shows three circular objects with the numbers 5, 20, and 2. The objects are aligned in a similar way to the sunglasses Velveteen Dream is known to wear. The numbers can be re-arranged into the 2-5-20, which is the date of the next episode of NXT. Due to the similar arrangement to that of Dreams signature glasses, and that he is due to return before long, people have latched onto this being the return of Dream.
Velveteen Dream Has Unfinished Business
Prior to leaving to heal up his injuries, Dream was the NXT North American Champion. He would drop the belt to Roderick Strong on the debut episode of NXT on USA, then would be written off TV after an assault by Undisputed Era. Losing a key player like Dream as you entered a new era of the brand was a tricky one to overcome, and it will be a breath of fresh air to have the 24 year old wrestling prodigy back in action.
His return will come at a time where the cracks are starting to show in Undisputed Era. Keith Lee took the NXT North American Championship, they failed to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, they lost at Worlds Collide to Imperium, and Ciampa recently took out every member on NXT. They are losing their status as one of the strongest factions around. Dream showing up and adding to their problems might be the tipping point for the faction.
Dream has been missed, and that is why fans are latching to hope of having him back. We will have to wait and see if this promo was for Dreams return or a separate debut.
