On WWE Backstage, it was revealed that John Cena would be returning to WWE. This will happen on the February 28th edition of Smackdown Live. His the close proximity to Wrestlemania, we can expect the build to a major match for Cena begin there. With the number of matches he will have getting shorter as he becomes more active in Hollywood, any match could be his last. This means WWE needs to make every appearance count. Who on Smackdown could serve as an opponent for John Cena at Wrestlemania?
Daniel Bryan
One possible match is one between John Cena & Daniel Bryan. Bryan has recently snapped after losing to Universal Champion, The Fiend in a strap match at Royal Rumble. He took out his anger on Heath Slater, and we will likely see him attack someone else in the future if provoked. When John Cena comes around, he could become a target of Bryan as well. They previously clashed at Summerslam 2013, where Daniel Bryan would defeat John Cena to become the WWE Champion. It was a fantastic match, and no doubt another encounter would be just as good.
King Corbin
Should Corbin ever finish feuding with Roman Reigns, he will need someone new to harass in order to stay in the spotlight of WWE. The loud mouthed superstar has had previous issues with John Cena, with Cena being indirectly responsible for Corbin failing to cash in Money in the Bank in 2017, before losing to Cena at Summerslam. Now an improved performer, he could take the fight to Cena once again and try to claim redemption on the biggest stage of them all.
Sheamus
Having recently returned to his old look for another run in WWE, we could see Sheamus prove he is still a top star by coming for John Cena. Sheamus got his first taste of the WWE Championship in 2009 when he defeated Cena in a Tables match, shocking the world. They have not faced off in a singles match since 2015, and Cena has never beaten Sheamus in a PPV match. Many years of chemistry would help this match be fantastic, and it could help Sheamus become a top heel on Smackdown once again.
