Xavier Woods will be out of WWE action for anywhere between six months to a year with an Achilles tendon injury. The SmackDown superstar was injured on 10/20 during a tag match with Big E against The Rival in Sydney, Australia.
Xavier Woods on the Mend
With Xavier Woods out, that probably makes WWE’s job easier in deciding what to do with Kofi Kingston at the moment. The company definitely has plans for Kofi, you don’t put the belt on a guy who has been with your company most of their career, have them lose in record time, and just let them float in limbo. I mean, being James Storm’d is just cruel.
On one hand, it could lead to a Kofi turn in that time and the slow break up of The New Day but that’s so predictable. That means it’s a good chance WWE will run with it. If the company doesn’t jump as the low hanging fruit of Heel Kofi, it will be interesting to see what they do exactly. Going with a heel run for him could eventually lead back to the WWE Championship but there’s a lot of other things tied into The New Day brand to consider.
As for Woods, so far, we don’t know how bad of an injury it was. That said, it has to be particularly gnarly if Woods is going to be out for up to a year. Still, he could return before six months if he’s showing a lot of progress healing. Xavier Woods is an essential part of WWE’s public face along with his New Day mates so expect him to stay busy while out.
On that note, he does have plans of the pizza, tweeting, and convention persuasion. Woods even gave us a throwback saying his injury happened because he was in his treehouse and fell after someone said his epidermis was showing. Earlier today, he posted his post-surgery video and appears in good spirits.
Here’s hoping Woods has a speedy recovery.
