There’s no secret that Triple H is a talented wrestler and booker, given how successful NXT has been under his watch. But if the Prince stepping up to be the king of WWE kings?
He may be.
Rumors are constantly swirling around the internet about “reports” coming from within the WWE locker room or from reporters working for the promotion. One of them is that Triple H is growing increasingly frustrated with Vince McMahon.
No one can deny the dip in the creative pool at WWE. Going back months, even years, they’ve been losing fans because of their common goal.
Writing for an audience of one
There’s no secret that WWE Creative works to please one person, and that’s Vince McMahon. As chairman and CEO of WWE, McMahon has final say on everything and has been accused of micromanaging the promotion by several sources. It’s been his trademark since taking over the company from his father in 1982, it’s often been for the better.
Vince McMahon has overseen the rise of a territorial wrestling promotion to a word wide phenomena. In short, he built professional wrestling’s Disney. He’s proven himself to be a genius and deserves a tremendous amount of respect. But lately, his vision’s been… off.
He’s been accused of burying fan favorites because they weren’t his favorites. It’s been reported that he’s stopped pushing individuals for personal reasons. In short, it McMahon’s way or no way. If you embrace McMahonism, you’ll have a tremendous career and he’ll be loyal to the day he dies. Buck against it, and you may find yourself on the outs.
In the end, WWE creative writes for Vince McMahon and no one else, leaving the fans on the outs.
Let that last part sink in. How long ago did they say they were going to listen to the WWE Universe, but yet seem to ignore every plea for change?
Some fans have referred to McMahon as the godfather of professional wrestling. But Don Corleone listened to the advice he was given. When he didn’t he nearly died and his son Michael took over.
The frustration builds
Other reports going back to May of 2019 suggest that Triple H has been growing more and more frustrated with McMahon.
According to WrestleTalk.com, Triple H was the most frustrated person in the locker room over how NXT’s talent has been treated.
It’s a safe bet this has continued as reports previous to NXT’s debut on the USA network that if they didn’t win the ratings war with AEW after a while, McMahon would take over as the creative power behind the show.
This is a very believable rumor as McMahon has been outed as an ultra-controlling individual. While NXT has risen the last few weeks thanks to exposure to casual fans through the invasion and Survivor Series angle, there is always the possibility McMahon follows through on his threat.
Exchanging shots
Things have taken an interesting turn in the last few days as various superstars like Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and AJ Styles have instigated a social media feud with CM Punk, challenging him to fights, calling him a coward, and Styles going so far as to say he’d “mop the floor with him.”
This is most likely work (scripted) by the above mentioned superstars on McMahon’s orders to drum up interested following Punk’s comments on WWE Backstage burying McMahon and his practices.
It’d make Punk’s comments look like he’s playing a part and the company’s best are standing in staunch defense of McMahon and the WWE.
Don’t lead the fans
Here’s the thing, during NXT’s Takeover: War Games post-show media call, Triple H reportedly said he has not spoken with CM Punk, and then told their media team to not lead fans into believing Punk would be the mystery man to join NXT at Survivor Series. He also reiterated that CM Punk does not work for the WWE, but Fox.
So, he’s basically taking the stand that Punk isn’t work for McMahon, and therefore isn’t playing a part.
Add to this that Shayna Baszler is reportedly wanted on the main roster prior to Survivor Series, and we appear to have an interesting back and forth going on between the two top guys in WWE.
Just to add another “AHA!” moment, it was also reported back in February that “the family” forced McMahon into handing over WWE CEO duties to Triple H, but he’s apparently decided against it as he’s still listed as CEO.
These are a lot of rumors that seem to point to a possible coup coming. Or, at the very least, the prince is stepping up to be the king of WWE kings.
Will this be called “Curtain Call 2?”
