In a scary situation over the weekend, Scottish born female powerhouse Piper Niven wound up in hospital due to Bells Palsy. This was brought to the public attention by Niven in a tweet, simply saying “Who’s got two thumbs, a funny face and has Bell’s Palsy? “ along with a picture of her in a hospital gown. It’s obvious that it was unable to break her spirit, but it can’t be a fun experience to go through.
She immediately received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow wrestlers alike, including Jim Ross. Ross is an expert when it comes to Bells Palsy, and said on Twitter “You look great, young lady! Bell’s palsy is just another bump in the road for you. I’ve had it three times and our only option is to fight through it. Stay positive. You have a bright future!”. As mentioned in his reply, he has faced it three times in his lifetime.
What Is Bells Palsy Exactly?
Bells Palsy is a rare condition which effects about 200,000 people a year in the united states. It is described as causing sudden, temporary weakness in your facial muscles. This would make half of your face appear to droop. Your smile becomes one-sided, and your eye on that side resists closing. It usually is able to resolve itself in about 6 months time. Physical therapy can help prevent muscles from permanently contracting. It’s unknown what causes this to occur in people, but hopefully someday an answer to that question will be found.
Piper Niven & Her NXT Future
Piper Niven is one of the top stars in the NXT UK womens division, and is currently slotted in to be a part of a triple threat match for the NXT UK Womens Championship at NXT UK Takeover Blackpool II. Hopefully this bout with Bells Palsy doesn’t take her out of this matchup, as she gets prepared to face former champion Toni Storm and current champion Kay Lee Rae. It should be one of the best matches on that card, and I really hope it goes on as planned, but Pipers health is of higher importance.
We here at The Overtimer wish Piper Niven a speedy recovery, and let us know in the comments down below who you have winning at NXT UK Takeover Blackpool II. Be sure to check back here for the latest news and updates on the wild world of professional wrestling.
