Ladies and gentlemen, whether you realize it or not, we are at the precipice of a three-day weekend of pro wrestling PPVs. Of course WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019 is this Sunday. But that’s not even close to all. The National Wrestling Alliance, which really came out of the woodwork to impress a lot of people in the fall of 2019, are returning to PPV for the first time in April tomorrow night, with their event, Into The Fire. And if that’s not enough, tonight, Ring of Honor is putting on what is nominally their biggest event of the year, the WrestleMania-equivalent if you weel, ROH Final Battle 2019!
It’s the latter that I’ll be discussing right now, as we have ten matches to look into! So let’s not waste any more time.
ROH World Tag Team Championships: The Briscoe Brothers (c) vs. Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham
The Briscoes are as storied a team as you’ll find. They’ve practically been with Ring of Honor since the beginning. For most of the past 17 years, they’ve been mainstays of the promotion and in that time they’ve amassed a ridiculous 11 tag title reigns, including the one they’re currently on. Simply put, they’re the cornerstones of the division, always have been and probably always will be.
Speaking of cornerstones, Jay Lethal has basically been The Guy in Ring of Honor for the past four years. With his two reigns, he holds the record for longest combined days with the ROH World Championship. And this pairing with Jonathan Gresham is a fascinating one to say the least, given he’s a man with a ton of untapped potential. Gresham is very, very reminiscent of a young Bryan Danielson in many ways, even his trunks seem to basically aspire to this, with an octopus in place of a dragon. ROH should definitely be looking at Gresham as a big name for them going forward, and this could be the start of something big for him. I’m gonna go ahead and say Lethal and Gresham over.
ROH Final Battle 2019 airs tonight on iPPV, 7PM CT.
