There are few men who have brought more fight out of each other in the ring than Bryan Danielson & Nigel McGuinness. Two of the most important names in the history of Ring of Honor, Danielson & McGuinness were considered to be some of the greatest technical wrestlers of their time.
While McGuinness had his in-ring career cut short due to injuries and illness, Danielson has done his best to press on – even pushing past a career ending injury. While McGuinness loves to take jabs at Danielson on AEW commentary – there is no one he respects more in the industry.
Bryan Danielson Is The Best Wrestler Of His Generation
During an interview with WrestleTalk, McGuinness would have the following to say about his matches with Danielson – and how he’s the best wrestler of their generation.
“I’m very proud, certainly very proud of those matches. People used to say, ‘what’s your favorite match?’ It would never be a match with Bryan because there is a lot of pressure, there was a lot of physical toll as well. I was glad I was able to have matches that still stand up today and glad I got the chance to wrestle him.
I call him a Clamdigger and make fun of him for having girly arms and taking six months off because he broke one little arm where he has 205 perfectly normal bones in his body, but ultimately, in my opinion, he is the best wrestler of my generation or perhaps any generation.
Why that is the case? I’m not really sure. You can look back to how he grew up, what made him the person he is, but I don’t think there is anyone you can put on that level in terms of having great matches with absolutely everybody he gets in the ring with, maybe a Kurt Angle. Certain people might be in the conversation, but obviously, I’m biased because my best matches were with him.”
There was some speculation that McGuinness would return to the ring for AEW All In 2023, but this was not the case. With plans to run Wembley Stadium again in 2024, it could be important to pay close attention to the words and actions of McGuinness over the next year. Danielson missed All In due to a broken arm, suffered against Kazuchika Okada.
