Ladies and gentlemen, tonight is Monday night! The last Monday before Christmas! I’m sure for some people this is like the exact opposite of a holiday… for me, it’s uh, any other Monday really. Which means it’s preview time! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and tonight… I’m cheatin’~! WWE Raw is tonight and as usual they only see fit to give me a couple of things to work with but that’s fine! I don’t need to wait for them to officially announce things when the whole show’s been taped all along for a whole week!
This one, of course, was announced last week, a true anomaly in WWE programming.
WWE United States Championship: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Seth Rollins
With Brock Lesnar once again an absentee world champion, the WWE United States title is now by default the biggest male title on Raw. Strange times.
This match stems from Rollins and AOP gang attacking Rey Mysterio last week, which itself was derived from when Rey handed Kevin Owens a lead pipe to use to hunt down Seth and the AOP. Rollins decided to return the pipe to Rey, with help from his bodyguards, laying him out with a curbstomp. He then made it clear that the only reason they didn’t do even worse to him is because he could not well answer his challenge from a hospital bed, and he wanted to establish dominance by taking that WWE United States Championship from the legendary luchador!
This is amazingly a first-time-ever singles match, and is honestly a really fun one to close out the year with. But all things considered, Owens waiting in the wings to even up any odds created from AOP shenanigans, this being the likely main event right before Christmas, and also the simple fact that this was held a week ago and I somehow wasn’t spoiled on any title change, I’m gonna say Rey Mysterio retains.
