On this cold December night, we are almost finished everyone. Almost done with the second to last WWE Raw of the year, as we are two hours and forty mintues into the show as I type this! I’m Jordan Huie, and I ain’t leaving you until it’s over, ready to give you the recap and results of the show as they come! We just now witnessed the main event, which saw the WWE United States Championship on the line! Rey Mysterio defended the gold against Seth Rollins!
This came about after Rollins and AOP jumped Rey last week and made clear that the only reason that the legendary luchador didn’t end up hospitalized is because Rollins wanted to go after that US title the next week!
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
We come back to see Rollins working over the shoulder of Rey, big tilt-a-whirl backbreaker! Rey fights back, Rollins throws him to the corner, floatover, headscissor takes Rollins to the floor. Rey hits the ropes, suicide dive sunset flip wall bomb! Jesus Christ! Rey throws Rollins into the ring, West Coast Pop! Wants a springboard moonsault, Rollins catches him but Rey turns it into a Tornado DDT! Cover for a nearfall! Rey with a springboard crossbody caught, Rollins turns it into a Buckle Bomb! Avada Kedavra for a nearfall! Rollins tunes up the band, goes for the Stomp but Rey avoids it, rana takes him between the ropes, 619! Rey up top, AOP attack him, Rey gets thrown from the ropes to the barricade! DQ.
Winner: Rey Mysterio (by DQ)
This was a pretty good match but it didn’t really go on too long, as one would expect from a match that ends in an abrupt DQ. They could definitely have a great one under different circumstances, but that’ll have to wait. For now, Rollins can’t eat a loss, nor is he about to take this title, so this was pretty much the only result this match could’ve had.
