Ladies and gentlemen, we are halfway through tonight’s episode of WWE Raw as I type this! And on this Monday night, the last of the year and last of the decade, a big announcement was made for the first PPV of 2020! Royal Rumble 2020 card is already starting to come together with it’s biggest matches announced before 2019 is even out.
WWE Raw Results (12/30/2019) Becky Lynch vs. Asuka Made Official For Royal Rumble 2020
For the past couple of months, Becky Lynch has made clear her intentions to avenge the one major loss that she has yet to be able to take back. At the 2019 Royal Rumble, Asuka defeated her to take the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, the same night that Becky went on to win the Rumble itself. In the Fall and into the Winter, Becky ended up having a grit-teeth team with rival Charlotte Flair to take on Asuka and her Kabuki Warriors partner Kairi Sane, unsuccessfully going after the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
The story has been that Asuka is so dangerous that Becky, as their top star in the modern age, has actually been kept away from defending against her as management doesn’t believe that she can beat Asuka. Becky is of course not happy with any bit of that.
Tonight, the Man cut a promo addressing this situation.
You can see my recap of this segment below:
Becky Lynch backstage talking about how Asuka has accepted her challenge, and she officially announces that the match will be happening for the title at the 2020 Royal Rumble, a year after their first match. She notes that this match is happening because her contract was coming up and she wanted them to make this before they even began negotiations. Says being the golden goose means getting the golden handcuffs, doesn’t want to be protected or handed anything. Doesn’t know if she can beat Asuka, but she’ll die trying.
And so the match is made official. A full year later, Becky will get a chance to avenge her loss.
