Ladies and gentlemen, it is Wednesday night, always the best night of the week if you ask me, purely because it means another edition of the modern day wrestling wars! AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT are once again set to grace us with their presence, and I could not be more excited! After all, tonight… I’m going to be there at AEW Dynamite live! Yes, they’ll be emanating from Southaven, Mississippi, which is like a half hour drive from my house, I would’ve been crazy to pass that up! It’s a special show too, billed as the AEW Anniversary, as it’s a year out from the inaugural Double Or Nothing rally, which was technically the first AEW-sponsored event of any kind!
My watching from the stands means that I’m unable to do the usual recap but I’ll still be giving you the previews as usual, and the results later tonight!
AEW Women’s World Championship: Riho (c) vs. Kris Statlander
The inaugural AEW Women’s World Champion Riho has had quite the run of success to say the least and these two weeks would be the biggest yet, assuming she can cap it off here tonight. After defeating Nyla Rose, she retained against Britt Baker and Emi Sakura, then repeated the feat last week by winning a fatal four way. That occurred because this match, which was supposed to occur last week, had to be pushed back.
But things are starting to get tougher for the pop idol. An angered Nyla Rose powerbombed her through a table after that four way, meaning she’ll be banged up going into this one. Not to mention the jealous Britt Baker getting in her face later on in the night. She’s got a lot on her plate now, not even mentioning the up-and-coming sensation of Kris Statlander, who is an athletic marvel in many ways. Riho will be at an even bigger size disadvantage than normal in this one.
Yet in spite of all they’ve done to stack things against Riho and make it seem like Kris has a genuine shot here, I still don’t see it. Kris will be here before too long but to do so now seems very fast, and I think we’ve seen future, more personal title bouts set up for Riho after this. I’ll say Riho manages to retain yet again, but it sure won’t be easy.
