Friday Night SmackDown is soon at hand everybody! It’s just a few hours away at the time this article is published! Tonight, Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt come face-to-face ahead of their big clash on Sunday! My name is Jordan Huie, you are here at the Overtimer, and I’ll be here to give you the live coverage of the show as it happens! As per usual, there isn’t a ton that’s been announced in advance for this show. But I’ll be covering everything I can! Let’s get into a preview for what is a very significant segment here tonight.
Daniel Bryan and WWE Universal Champion Bray Wyatt meet in a contract signing here tonight.
Bryan and the Fiend will be a part of our only world title match this Sunday at the 2020 Royal Rumble. So tonight, on WWE SmackDown, the bout will be made official in a segment that is only occasionally mandatory: WWE’s long-time standby, the good ol’ fashioned contract signing. A table will no doubt be in the ring, Michael Cole will almost definitely be there with a microphone. You’ve seen this plenty of times before and probably already know how it’ll go. It’s one of few things that WWE actually lampshades the repetitiveness of.
This is a tad different though, if only because Bray Wyatt is involved. So we’ll likely see some Firefly Funhouse shenanigans go down. Plus we’ll no doubt segue into a special appearance from the Fiend himself. As for the title match, it’s been set in stone since the last week of 2019. Daniel Bryan won a triple threat match over the Miz and King Corbin to earn this shot.
But the feud itself dates back quite a ways.
Bryan has been assaulted by the Fiend many times, going back to the Fall. Bryan did challenge the Fiend at Survivor Series and got the best bout out of the gimmicky madness yet, but could not take the title away. Afterwards, Bryan found himself pulled into a ring and had every bit of hair torn from his head.
After several weeks of absence, Bryan re-emerged at WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs to attack the Fiend and debut his new haircut. Now looking for revenge, we’ll see if he has better luck this Sunday. As for the contract signing, I’m guessing he’ll actually come out of this okay to help him look like a threat.
