Just got back in and after a short rest, I’m ready to talk about the show I just watched live! This show included a few surprises, one being the reveal of Dr. Luther! AEW Dynamite came to Southaven, MS – though largely referred to as Memphis – for their Anniversary show! A year out from the official, formal announcement of All Elite Wrestling, they put on a special show to be sure. Just half an hour away from me no less, I couldn’t help but go. Now that the show’s over though, it’s back to work for me. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give you all the results from tonight’s event!
Dr. Luther Revealed As The Newest Member Of The Nightmare Collective
Brandi Rhodes and Awesome Kong have been running amok of late, and slowly but surely gathering more underlings for their Nightmare Collective. The seemingly voodoo-based group are most known for beating women up and stealing a lock of their hair to add to their collection. They’ve also been fervently going after Kris Statlander, basically ever since she was signed to AEW in the first place.
They made their presence felt during Statlander’s attempt at Riho’s AEW Women’s World Championship tonight. A few minutes into the bout, they interfered and simply refused to leave, no matter how clear it was that neither woman wanted them there. In the midst, one Dr. Luther revealed himself as one of their numbers. The sole male member of the Nightmare Collective, he’s said to be the protector of the rest.
He’s a unique sort to say the least. The 51-year-old was actually trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon and first started wrestling in his native Canada in 1988. However he’s much better known for his work in Japanese Deathmatches, a fixture during their peak in the 90s. He worked with WAR, IWA Japan and even the infamous FMW.
This would be another in the line of Deathmatch veterans AEW has sought out. He joins the likes of Jimmy Havoc, Joey Janela and, of course, Jon Moxley.
