Drew Gulak has had a surprisingly good run in WWE since joining up for the first Cruiserweight Classic. He has become Cruiserweight Champion, become a PowerPoint enthusiast, and had some fantastic matches with the likes of Mustafa Ali, Tony Nese, and former Catch Point ally Matt Riddle.
Speaking of Catch Point, Gulak filed for the trademark with the United States Trademark and Patent Office on 12/27. The filing was done under the business name “Catchpoint Incorporated”. Catch Point was a faction of wrestlers who worked for EVOLVE from 2015 – 2018, including Drew Gulak, ‘Hot Sauce’ Tracey Williams, TJP, Matt Riddle, Fred Yehi, Chris Dickinson, Jaka, Dominic Garrini, and Stokely Hathaway.
Could This Stable Be Brought To NXT?
NXT is currently run by The Undisputed Era stable, who hold all the gold with no one to oppose them. Drew Gulak & Matt Riddle joining forces and recruiting some talented grapplers from the WWE Performance Center could make for an interesting storyline. They could also clash with Imperium, who preach a similar message to that of Catch Point. I don’t think anyone would be mad at the prospect of Matt Riddle facing WALTER. Stokely Hathaway is also in NXT as Malcom Bivens, but has yet to appear on TV. He is possibly one of the best managers in wrestling today, and simply needs the right clients to back up.
NXT has had a history with factions, with Undisputed Era just being the latest, with groups like Sanity being a past example. Seeing Catch Point revived wouldn’t be a terrible choice, or a surpising one. With Triple H being the mind behind NXT, and him being part of one of the biggest factions of the 90’s, it’s not shocking he has been bringing the faction format back to WWE.
Drew Gulak Could Just Use This For Merchandise, Or A Back Up Plan
Drew Gulak signed a 3 year deal in 2016, so it’s very likely his contract could be up soon. He might want to secure the Catch Point brand incase he leaves WWE, so he has that to use on the independent circuit or other companies like AEW. He could also be securing the brand to get the merchandise option of making Catch Point merchandise for himself to sell on a site like ProWrestlingTees.
