Has Ring Of Honor Retired Their Womens Championship?

The Women of Honor division in Ring Of Honor has long been used as an afterthought. They had a womens division simply because a major company in North American needed to have one, and while they had some talent for it, they never really used them to their full ability. Following them letting go of their current champion, Kelly Klein while she was still champion, they might have completely gotten rid of the championship along with the champion.

Championship No Longer On The Ring Of Honor Website

The website for Ring of Honor has a page that shows their current champions, and if you go there you will see the ROH Championship, the ROH TV Championship, the ROH Tag Team Championship, and the ROH 6-Man Tag Team Championship. Absent is the Women Of Honor championship, though. Despite their still being a page for the division, proudly showcasing all 8 women they have on their roster, the belt is nowhere to be found.

Companies getting rid of titles is far from uncommon. Ring Of Honor has done it in the past when they combined the ROH Pure Championship into the ROH Championship, but rarely will a company take away the only prize in a division. It is possible that they have only removed it due to not wanting Kelly Klein on their website after cutting ties with her, and they could start up a tournament to crown a new champion in 2020.

    The Championship And Its Legacy

It would be a lie to call the Women of Honor Championship one that held much prestige. Since it’s debut in 2018, there has been four people who have held the championship. These are Sumie Sakai who was the inaugural champion and who held the belt for 251 days, Kelly Klein who held the belt on 3 different occassions and possibly is the final holder of the title, Mayu Iwatani who was the person who brought hope to the division during her short 51 day reign, and Angelina Love who was an iconic part of the Impact Wrestling womens division in the early 2010s.

Considering how poorly the belt and division has been handled, it would make sense to shelve it until you’re capable of giving it the proper care and attention it will need.

Do you think Ring of Honor should give up on their womens division, or should they put the belt on someone new and keep on handling it like they have been? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
