My oh my, was that ever a long night… but it was sure worth it! Ladies and gentlemen, Wrestle Kingdom 14 is, technically still upon us as we speak as we are now between halves of this pro wrestling extravaganza! Night 1 finished a few hours ago as I type this and frankly I’ve only just now begun to decompress from all that I’ve witnessed. As I said before any of this even started, it’s going to go down as a truly unforgettable weekend in professional wrestling’s storied history.
Now this next one, you’ll be sure to hear about for quite some time to come…
Hiromu Takahashi def. Will Ospreay to become IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion
Matches like this are either love it or hate it. Some will say it’s the best form of wrestling, others will say it ain’t even wrestling. Honestly though that pretty much goes for every variation of the genre. Personally, I think it was a fantastic, exciting and at times terrifying affair, where the right man undoubtedly won, with Hiromu Takahashi capping off his big return from injury in the right way.
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
Charging lariat but Ospreay flips out of it, gets him onto his shoulders BUT HIROMU TURNS THIS INTO A CANADIAN DESTROYER OUT OF NOWHERE FOR A NEARFALL! Fireman’s Carry drive into the corner! Hiromu gets Ospreay onto his shoulders, wants the Time Bomb but Ospreay escapes only to eat a couple of superkicks! Hoists him up again, Ospreay escapes for the 540 Kick! Looks for Strombreaker but Hiromu escapes, hits the ropes, charges right into a Spanish Fly!
Ospreay wants the Hidden Blade once again! NAILS IT, AND IT IS VICIOUS! Hooks both arms and forces him up for Stormbreaker… COUNTERED INTO A SUNSET FLIP BOMB FOR A NEARFALL! Hiromu hits the ropes for a massive lariat that flips Ospreay onto his back! TIME BOMB! NO, EVEN THIS IS A NEARFALL! Hiromu hits the ropes twice, big forearm! Hooks Ospreay… D DRIVER FOR THE WIN!
Winner: Hiromu Takahashi
