The New Beginning series takes a look at both New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) New Beginning tours taking place in Japan and the United States.
The Road to the New Beginning turns to the Yamagata Big Wing on January 27, 2020, as the Japan leg of the tour continues. The event kicks off with Gabriel Kidd’s first singles match of his NJPW career as he faces fellow Young Lion, Yuya Uemura.
Young Lion Yota Tsuji and former 6x IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team and 2x IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Rysukue Taguchi face Bullet Club members and former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori in the second match of the evening. Phantasmo and Ishimori are looking to stay in title contention after dropping the junior tag team championships on night-two of Wrestle Kingdom 14.
The third match continues what is Manabu Nakanishi’s retirement tour as he and fellow third-generation NJPW Tokyo Dojo graduate Hiroyoshi Tenzan against Togi Makabe (also of the third-generation) and Toa Henare who is looking to have a breakout 2020.

The fourth match is another prelude to Roppongi 3K’s (Sho & Yoh) February 9th defense of their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at The New Beginning In Osaka against the Suzuki-Gun team of Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado, who are former champions in their own right.
While Minoru Suzuki will look to put work towards his IWGP United States Heavyweight challenge against Jon Moxley on February 9th as well. Tomoaki Honma continues on his quest to return to his heights before a vicious neck injury in March 2017.
The fifth match sees an NJPW/CHAOS team of Tiger Mask IV, Tomohiro Ishii, and new NEVER Openweight Champion Hirooki Goto face a Los Ingobernables de Japon team of Bushi, Evil, and the NEVER Openweight challenger on February 1st in Sapporo, Shingo Takagi.

The final two matches look at the headline and marquee matches throughout The New Beginning tour. Zack Sabre Jr (C) and Will Ospreay will meet in the headline of the February 2nd The New Beginning In Sapporo for the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship, while Kazuchika Okada and Taichi will meet in the marquee.
The marquee main event on the 27th highlights Sanada/Jay White, which is one of the headline matches on February 9th, and the marquee of that show Tetsuya Naito (C) who will defend his ‘Double Championship’ against KENTA on February 9th in Osaka. Both matches will be the first singles’ affairs against one another.
