Ladies and gentlemen, the time is fast approaching… we’re almost there at WWE Worlds Collide 2020! Rhea Ripley defends her NXT Women’s Championship against her longest running rival here this evening! And that’s just one of the many special, unique bouts we have to look forward to here tonight! NXT and NXT UK are set to do battle in a night-long war for supremacy! My name is Jordan Huie, you are here at the Overtimer, and I’ll be with you to give you the recap and results from the show as it comes!
The second of our two title matches sees an old rivalry renewed!
NXT Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Toni Storm
Even though the NXT Women’s tile was recently renamed in a sense, I think for the sake of avoiding confusion, I’ll probably still be referring to it this way. But I do buy into it being on the same level as the men’s NXT Championship, no issue with that whatsoever. Rhea Ripley just recently took the title off of Shayna Baszler and hopefully she’ll be able to put it back to it’s former glory of two years ago, where these title matches often overshadowed everything that came after them.
Admittedly with the main event we have in store tonight, that’s gonna be a tough ask. But I’m not gonna say these two don’t have a shot! Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm have faced off many times before, and it’s always a great one to see! Rhea Ripley was the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion and she did this by defeating Storm in the first place. However, Toni was not to be denied and fervently pursued her. Eventually, at NXT TakeOver: Blackpool, Toni Storm managed to defeat her rival and claim the prize for herself.
Since then, the two have gone on very different paths.
Ripley moved to NXT and night one, was immediately a major babyface after being a heel for her UK run. She was laserfocused on taking the NXT Women’s title from Shayna Baszler and now she’s achieved it. But the moment she won it, she ended up staring down a ghost of her past yet again. It’s Toni Storm challenging Rhea Ripley yet again, just a little over a year after taking a title from her last time! But I have to think on this occasion, Rhea rights this. Ripley to retain.
