Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to kick off the coverage of the main card here for the WWE 2020 Royal Rumble! Steve Austin vignette opens the show, asking us what we came for. The show’s theme song answers, “I’m here to rumble!” Falls Count Anywhere match between King Corbin and Roman Reigns opens the show.
Also, Roman has a new 3D graphic. It’s him. It’s a giant statue of him screaming.
Falls Count Anywhere: Roman Reigns vs. King Corbin
Roman jumps Corbin on the ramp as he’s being carted out to start things out! Throws him into the ring, but Corbin with a heymaker, starts to run over the barricade but he’s going very, very, very slowly, enough so that Roman caught him and pulled him back to ringside. Nails him with a headbutt. Throws him into the ring, big Back Suplex for a nearfall. One day, somebody will have the balls to end a Falls Count Anywhere match inside the ring. Roman wants a Superman Punch, Corbin counters with a Deep Six for a nearfall! Corbin throws him out of the ring, drives him into the barricade! Corbin takes up the steps and rams them into the face of Roman.
Roman fights back, and now they’re slugging it out into the crowd. Corbin escapes to ringside, rams a rign bell in Roman’s stomach! Chokeslam onto an announce table and it does not break, ouch! Corbin covers him, nearfall! Roman fights back, big uppercuts. Superman Punch, but Corbin catches him and another chokeslam – this one puts him through an announce table!! Cover for a nearfall! Corbin drags Roman across ringside, throws him over the barrier. Takes him a loooong way through the crowd. Suddenly stops and sends a few forearms. They are very clearly on a path this is some truly fake nonsense.
Corbin brings him to a very specific spot and hammers him with more forearms. Poses, boos. Throws him into one of the standard WWE gigantic black metal boxes. Corbin takes him towards a table, Roman counters, Samoan Drop right through the table! Roman with a Samoan Drop through a SECOND announce table for a nearfall! I love how childishly simple big WWE matches are put together sometimes. Corbin chokeslams Roman through two announce tables, Roman Samoan Drops Corbin through two announce tables in response. It’s like action figures smacking together sometimes. They continue just waltzing to a different part of the arena, King Corbin slams him through steps. They’re going up the steps.
Roman is taking to Corbin until Roode and Ziggler emerge to attack him from behind!
They were cunningly waiting in this exact spot here in this enormous baseball field, confident that the fight would eventually randomly spill here! The Usos come in to make the save though, big group brawl now! Roode and Ziggler drag the Usos around, kindly find the softest things possible to throw them into, some cardboard boxes. They put up a steel barricade and make it into a platform. Wicked trash can lid shot. They’re about to put Jey Uso through the barrier – when Jimmy comes flying from a balcony to take both out with a Crossbody! However Corbin sneaks up behind him, back suplex onto the barrier! Reigns rushes in with a Superman Punch!
Roman slams King Corbin against… what honestly looks like port-a-potties. This… this justifies the stipulation. He opens up a port-a-potty! Puts him inside and slams the door! And now he’s dragging it across the ground, tips it over!!! Holy Shit chant!! Corbin rolls out and I am stunned that he is not covered in feces. Roman punching Corbin across the crowd. Roman pounding Corbin with punches! Corbin flees, until he can grab a chair, slams it into Roman’s gut. Throws him atop the dugout. Big boos. Slams the chair across his back! And another and another.
Baron wants an End of Days, Roman counters with a big shot, Superman Punch! He is stumbling to the other side of the dugout! Roman screams, spear! Cover, that is that.
Winner: Roman Reigns
Well. I won’t be forgetting that match anytime soon. So it has that. More than I can say for their TLC match.
