In a match that was supposed to happen last week, tonight Sasha Banks finally faces Lacey Evans! It’s that time of the week again, folks. Yep, time for another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! With the Royal Rumble and the vaunted WrestleMania season fast approaching, it’s an important time for positioning. Everyone’s keeping a particularly close eye on those that gain momentum right around this point. After all, it’s fair to say that every wrestling fan wants to know how Mania’s gonna shape up.
Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and as always, I’ll be here giving you the previews for the show, as well as the live recap and results! There’s actually a fair bit on tap this go-round, not common for main roster shows. Except this week apparently, as Raw also gave me more to work with than usual… gotta appreciate it! Anyway, let’s get to it!
Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks
As said in the opening paragraph, this bout was intended to occur last week. However Sasha Banks allegedly pulled out of the match at the last minute due to a scheduling conflict, much to Lacey’s chagrin. In recent months, Evans has become a thorn in the side of Sasha and her cohort, WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley. Sasha is the barrier that Evans has to break to get her hands on Bayley. The twosome have made things personal, being among the dozen or so heels over the past few months to insult the families of their opponent.
Tonight, they are again advertising this match. So it may well happen! One thing’s for sure, Lacey needs to get past Sasha before she can move on to Bayley. And with the Rumble weeks away, the timing would make sense for her to go ahead and earn the shot right here and now. The question I guess is, are they wanting to hold that off until Mania? But I think on balance, I’ll say Lacey Evans over here.
