Ladies and gentlemen, the Royal Rumble kickoff is well underway and we are about to get our first match of the night right here, pitting Sheamus against Shorty G! This battle is based around Sheamus’ hatred of small people.
Shorty G vs. Sheamus
Shorty wants a single leg, but he just tosses him away. Another throw. Arm wringer, he’s trying to fight out. Straight forearm takes him out, reverses the arm wringer. G with a bridge and flip, but he trips him to the mat. Side headlock takedown, G with the headscissors to reverse, headlock cinched in. Taken the top ropes, shoulder block. Shorty G with a Cactus Clothesline, going to the outside! Sheamus fights back though, takes him into the ring. Shorty with a roll-up for 2. Amateur Takedown, grabs the ankles, Celtic Warrior kicks him to the corner. Posts him. Sheamus hoists him up – Shoulderbreaker! Now that’s an oldschool one, don’t see a lot of people doing that one. Mostly ’cause it looks too much like a tombstone.
Sheamus stomping the hell out of the hands and fingers. Shorty fights out of it, body shots and chops. Hits the ropes, eats a back elbow. Sheamus sinks in the wristlock as the terrible pre-show mid-match commercial comes on. G fights to his feet but a double axe handle puts him back down. Poses, gets some cheers. This venue is absolutely enormous of course, Minute Maid Park.
Sheamus takes him to the apron and the Ten Beats of the Bowery commence!
And he does way more than ten, just hammering his chest relentlessly until he slumps to the floor. Everyone loves him, in spite of how clearly hard he’s trying to be a heel. Pursues him out there, yet more battering and then he throws him into the ring. Asks everyone “Are you not entertained?!” and they respond positively. Sheamus shoves G around. Grabs him by the hair as he stands up. Shorty G with some mean slaps! Forearms, kick to the face! Celtic Warrior wants a back suplex but G flips onto his feet, low dropkick clips the legs! Chops him into the corner, Rolling Liger Kick to the head! And another!
Trips him down, stomps his legs now, targeting the left ankle. Running Rolling Liger Kick, G up top for a moonsault press but he catches him! G turns it into a Tornado DDT however! Shorty up top once more, beautiful moonsault!! But the Celtic Warrior kicks out. Shorty wants a German, takes an elbow to the ear, avoids a Brogue, Chaos Theory German Suplex for a nearfall! Sheamus bails, gets a Hot Shot. Sheamus up top, flies at G – who turns it into an ankle lock! Sheamus kicks him away. Brogue attempt, but G ducks it and turns this into the ankle lock as well! Working on the same ankle he targeted before, Sheamus grabs the rope to break the hold.
Shorty G stomping him into the corner, Sheamus kicks him away. Uranage, G turns it into a Crucifix for a narrow nearfall, Celtic Warrior with the Brogue Kick to take the win!
Winner: Sheamus
