Ladies and gentlemen, it’s almost time. Here on one of the biggest nights of the pro wrestling calendar each and every year, we have the one and only WWE Royal Rumble! We’ve got some truly enormous matches to look forward to tonight, including of course the two eponymous Royal Rumble matches! Shorty G and Sheamus in a grudge match as well! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, here to give you the preview of everything you can expect to see here tonight! The show is but a couple of hours away now as I type this, so let’s get going!
Sheamus vs. Shorty G
We’ve got ourselves a bit of a grudge match here and, in many ways one of the most classic stories possible. Yep, Shorty G has found himself embroiled in yet another David and Goliath battle here. It seems that as long as the little Olympic draws breath, there will always be large men who hate him for daring to exist as a short person. He dealt with this from King Corbin for quite a while and now it seems the Celtic Warrior wants to punish him for his size as well.
This happens to be Sheamus’ first televised match since his return. We’ve been building to this for a good couple of months now. Sheamus appeared in vignettes with, as Shorty G put it, spooky green lights illuminating his silhouette. He spoke of how SmackDown was once a land filled with warriors and giants, but now it’s become weak, soft… small. He seems to think that people like Shorty G have ruined the show and wants nothing more than to be rid of him.
Regardless of the build, this should be a lot of fun.
Sheamus is a hell of a bruiser to be sure, always has been. I honestly did miss seeing his physical stylings, even if he does sometimes go a little too rough for everyone else’s good. He’s not the safest guy around, but you sure know you’re watching a fight when you watch a Sheamus match. And Shorty G’s talents need no introduction. In addition to his pure mat skills, he’s also a fantastic underdog babyface. That much should be on full display here tonight.
But as much as I love Shorty G and feel he should be gaining momentum, Sheamus just came back. Got the vignette treatment and everything, so they made a pretty big deal about it. I can’t see them having him lose his first match back, regardless of who is more logical to put over in a vacuum. Sheamus to win.
