Hey there everybody, it is Wednesday and that means another episode of AEW Dynamite is coming to us tonight! Tag team action sees the Young Bucks take on the Butcher & the Blade!
January has been an interesting month for certain, 2020 off to a special start for AEW. It was kicked off with the Homecoming event in Jacksonville on New Year’s Day, leading into the Anniversary special the next week, Bash at the Beach came after that, which finished with the Jericho Cruise show in the middle of the ocean! January has been a unique month for AEW to be sure, but we do finally seem to be settling into more of a normalcy. I mean, we only have four pre-announced things to look at here tonight, which for Dynamite’s standards isn’t a whole lot. But, I can’t say I mind, it’s already been a pretty big week for me as is.
The Young Bucks vs. The Butcher & The Blade
This is actually kinda funny in a way. Last week, AEW set sail on the Jericho Cruise with the Rock ‘N Wrestling Rager Part Deux: Second Wave event. And on that show, one Maxwell Jacob Friedman – who has been using the Butcher & the Blade as his personal mercenaries for a while – got thrown into the pool by the Young Bucks. What felt like mere moments after this, this match was announced. The idea is pretty clear. He is so mad about getting tossed into that pool that he wants his hired guns to kill the Young Bucks here tonight. It is safe to say that MJF is extraordinarily gotten to.
That aside, this should be an interesting one. I always like matches with a sharp dichotomy is this is certainly one of them. The Young Bucks are your perennial high flying, acrobatic tag team. Meanwhile, the Butcher and the Blade feel very much like oldschool, rugged heels. They’re talented in their own way, but they’re much more deadly than flashy. It should be fun to see how these styles clash.
Now… in the first year of AEW’s existence, the Young Bucks lost with a surprising frequency. They really, really wanted to put over lesser known teams. And I personally think that’s pretty cool but they maybe overdid it. This year, they’ve been set on protecting themselves a little bit better. I would not expect them to go back to their old ways for this match, nor would it be the best team to do it for… Young Bucks over.
