A few weeks back, we saw Alex Shelley make his WWE debut. He was revealed as the surprise partner of KUSHIDA for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Their efforts would be cut short in the first round by finalists, The Grizzled Young Veterans. Seeing as Alex Shelley is a very respected veteran both in and out of the ring, it would be a shame for his reunion with KUSHIDA to be a one off. Is there hope of him returning for more action?
Alex Shelley Speaks Fondly About His Time In NXT
In a series of tweets he sent after his NXT debut, he spoke fondly of his time working with the brand. “I can tell you that WWE NXT treats their athletes as well as any wrestling company ever has and ever will in terms of care.” is just one of the quotes he had about NXT.
Alex Shelley works as a physiotherapist along with running a wrestling school and wrestling occasionally. He is keeping very busy, and his new career has given him a new perspective on how wrestlers are treated backstage. His praise on proper treatment backstage comes with weight, and helps it feel more genuine.
Free Agent, But Has An NXT Dream Match
Alex Shelley is embracing his role as a free agent in wrestling. Alongside NXT, he has appeared for Ring Of Honor, and is set to debut for Game Changer Wrestling over Wrestlemania weekend. He is picking and choosing the matches he wants to do, and one that is on his mind is in NXT against some familiar opponents. He wants to team with KUSHIDA once again to face Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly. This match would have been a reality, had Timesplitters not lost in the first round. The two teams have tangled many times in the past in both New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor, and at one point were close to aligning into a faction called Armada 4.
They have incredible chemistry, and it would be a contender for best tag team match of the year if it happens. Fish & O’Reilly are the current NXT Tag Team Champions, and are set to face the winner of Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne vs. Zack Gibson & James Drake at NXT Takeover Portland, but should Undisputed Era retain, Shelley will be in town on Wrestlemania weekend, so we could see him and KUSHIDA challenge for the championships then.
