As far as returning faces for WWE are, you could do worse when it comes to nostalgia than the Milan Miracle, Santino Marella. He will reportedly be in town for the event, with his role unclear at this time. While he was never a top talent for WWE, he still holds history in the rumble.
Santino Marella and His Unique Royal Rumble Record
While some like No Way Jose, Xavier Woods, and Titus O’Neil have come close, no one has broken a record that Santino set back in 2009. He made his way down to the ring, with designs on becoming the man to main event Wrestlemania. It was the one night of the year where he could become a main event talent. He hits the ring, and is eliminated in a mere 1.9 seconds by Kane.
No one has ever been eliminated faster from the match. He exclaimed he was not ready, but you don’t get a second chance. If he is to show up in the Royal Rumble this year, hopefully he can atleast last long enough to attempt to hit Brock Lesnar with the deadly Cobra, or they find a way to get him out faster and he breaks his own record. It would take serious precision to get a faster time than 1.9 seconds, which will make this impressive.
Will He Become 24/7 Champion?
If the 24/7 Championship was around during his time in the company, he would have won it more times than R-Truth currently has. With him in town, and being a comedy wrestling genius, it would be a complete waste to not have him added the belts legacy. The title is currently held by Mojo Rawley, who is in his fifth reign as champion. WWE has only recognized it as his second reign, as it was swapped on house shows which WWE has chosen not to count. This means he has officially held the championship for 10 days, which for this title is a very long time. Santino is a crafty individual, and he will find a way to win the championship if he’s in town. He could even enter the rumble with this goal in mind, or bring back Santina Marella to have Mojo Rawley lower his guard.
