Yoshi Tatsu is a name a few might recognize from his runs in WWE & NJPW where he felt like someone who would never rise above the midcard. This was true for his runs in both companies. The high point of his WWE run was either the time he feuded with Tyson Kidd over Kidd touching his action figure that was kept in a locker room shrine, or his match with Christian over the ECW Championship.
Yoshi Tatsu Came Back From A Broken Neck
In NJPW argubly the highlight of his career being when in a match with AJ Styles in NJPW he had his neck broken during a Styles Clash gone wrong. He also had an infamously bad stint on commentary for Wrestle Kingdom 10. After returning from that horrific injury, he felt like a wrestler who was performing under water. The writing seemed to be on the wall for him, the clock had struck midnight.
But his career would not end there. He would go to the historic All Japan Wrestling, where he would finally find himself in a career resurgence. He most recently has been their reigining TV champion, and while some matches have fallen flat, his reign has gotten good reviews as a whole. This reign seems to have been the catalyst of him receiving a full time contract with the promotion.
Freelancer No More
Tatsu has been working for All Japan with freelancer since late 2017, and has been on most tours since then. He has been winning over the fans and finding success as a upper midcarder and sidekick to top star Kento Miyahara. He became a one time World Tag Team champion and the current GAORA TV champion in the process.
He is now a full time All Japan talent rather than just a freelancer working for them. He likely still lives in Texas, like he has for years, which could be handy if AJPW wants him to help scout talent in the United States.
Yoshi Tatsu is proof that hard work will eventually pay off. Suffering a broken neck could end manys careers, but he has fought through and won back fans respect through his efforts. I hope 2020 is another great year for him and the rest of the All Japan roster as they continue to grow back into something worth recognizing once again.
