One of the more underrated members of the WWE roster is EC3. Much like Drew McIntyre, he left WWE a few years ago and turned himself into a star. While McIntyre has been rewarded with championships and a shot at Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania, EC3 has been treated to the best catering in the world as he struggles to get TV time.
His stint in NXT was alright, with him being a part of the fantastic ladder match to crown the initial North American Champion, as well as a fun feud with the flamboyant Velvteen Dream. However, upon going to Monday Night RAW, he was not given any microphone time, and was thrown into a micro-feud with Dean Ambrose who was on his way out of the company. He has not been seen on any kind of WWE programming since September, and WWE isn’t even trying to trademark the EC3 brand any longer. As new talent comes into WWE, old talent goes out. Many feel EC3 will be a prime target for the next batch of contract releases.
Could EC3 Be All Elite?
AEW Champion and WWE allumni Chris Jericho posted a picture to Instagram with EC3, with the caption “Great chat with @therealec3 tonight in Orlando! Big things coming in the future for this talented brother …. @allelitewrestling’. While this could just be two old work friends catching up, and Chris Jericho is a known troll, when you consider the middling status of EC3 within WWE, it wouldn’t come as a shock if this could be a sign of things to come.
Even if this doesn’t lead to EC3 taking his character to greener pastures, it could help him gain some leverage in WWE. They have been hoarding talent to keep them away from competition like AEW & NJPW, and even someone as insignificant to the bigger picture of WWE like EC3 is someone they wouldn’t want to let loose under these circumstances. If nothing else, he could get some TV time out of this, which would already put him in a better situation than he has been in for the past 5 months.
