Ladies and gentlemen, we have got another edition of Friday Night SmackDown to look forward to here his evening! Tonight, in a natural follow-up from last week, we’ve got Carmella vs Naomi with a major title match on the line! My name is Jordan Huie, and I’m so happy to have you here with us tonight! You are visiting the Overtimer, and as always, I’ll be giving you the deep dive coverage into WWE Friday Night SmackDown! We have a decent amount announced in advance for the evening, not at all a common occurrence in WWE. So I’ll be sure to take advantage of that and give you all the previews for every single one! And with that all in mind…
Carmella vs Naomi
After making her return from a lengthy absence as part of the women’s Royal Rumble match last month, Naomi emerged on SmackDown as a new potential challenger for Bayley’s WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. She then entered a fatal four way match to determine a new No. 1 Contender, and sure seemed like the obvious favorite, given that she had just started a feud with the champion. However, Carmella ended up getting the win that night.
My assumption was that the winner of this match would challenge for the gold at Super Show-Down, but instead Carmella got her title match the very next week instead. To her credit, it was the best performance I’d ever seen from her, but in the end the champ retained via dirty means, her feet on the ropes for the pin. Bayley jumped her after the fact as well, but this led to Naomi coming out and making the save. The champion then declared that she would, in fact, defend her title against… somebody at Super Show-Down!
Just who it will be, that’s to be decided here in this match. And the question here really is, which of these ladies are more likely to be the challenger at Mania? That’s what it comes down to, essentially. One will win and go on to challenge at Super Show-Down. The other will probably have to wait until WrestleMania. It’s kinda dumb that we live in a world where the loser here will probably be getting the bigger match later but that is the world that WWE tends to be. My assumption has been that Naomi will get the Mania shot since that first segment, which means Carmella wins tonight.
