At Wrestle Kingdom 14, we saw AEW Champion Chris Jericho take the fight to Hiroshi Tanahashi. He was the last man on the List of Jericho’s dream opponents in NJPW, but Jericho has taken notice of others in the company who he would like to face. One of these men is The Aerial Assassin, Will Ospreay. However, if Le Champion had his way, he would have been having these matches on his home turf.
Chris Jericho Made An Offer To Will Ospreay
There is a forbidden door of sorts between AEW & New Japan Pro Wrestling. Reports have been varied, but it seems that Omega & The Young Bucks leaving after being made into stars left some distaste with NJPW officials. Despite this, there are two links to AEW on their roster. One of these is IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley, and the other is the Chris
Jericho. While in NJPW for Wrestle Kingdom, he tried to pull Ospreay over to AEW for some extra work. The plan was that inbetween the NJPW tours, Ospreay could come to AEW and do a program with Chris Jericho over the AEW Championship. Ospreay’s girlfriend, Bea Priestly has a similar deal with AEW. She mainly works in Stardom, but inbetween tours she is able to come over to AEW for some matches. A deal like this would have helped to give Ospreay more exposure to western fans. However, Ospreay is 100% committed to NJPW and declined the deal.
Will We See Them Clash In 2020?
It is always a treat when Chris Jericho shows up in NJPW. He is like Brock Lesnar, except the fans in Japan actually like when he’s around. He has been making his name at large events, and while his schedule is very busy, he could find time in the spring to face off with Ospreay. Events like Sakura Genesis & Dominion are big for NJPW, and a special singles match between two of the best of their respective generations would be a fantastic addition. It is unlikely that Jericho will still be AEW Champion at that point, as he has an angry one eyed Jon Moxley beating on his door. Jericho will meet Moxley at AEW Revolution. Ospreay wouldn’t have a chance to open the forbidden door, but he could have one of the best matches of his career.
