New Japan Pro Wrestling’s New Beginning In Osaka rages on, as a famed rivalry is renewed with Hiromu Takahashi taking on Ryu Lee! Jordan Huie of the Overtimer for some special coverage of NJPW’s latest offering, which occurred in the early AM this morning! Fortunately I’ve avoided spoilers so I can write this same as I would if this were live!
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: Hiromu Takahashi (c) vs. Ryu Lee
Bell rings, immediate German Suplex from Ryu Lee, Dragon Suplex from Hiromu! They both spring right back up and collide, another German from Ryu, and a big lariato from Hiromu, they’re each laid out already! Some dueling chant action there. Ryu with his hands behind his back, allows a brutal chop to his chest! Yikes! And he responds with a wickedly loud one of his own! They trade vicious chops, good God! This is the loudest exchange I’ve ever heard! Good God, it’s still going! Utter madness, they finally pause after like a couple dozen shots apiece! But then it just keeps on going! Chests already reddening, and then it intensifies again! They’re definitely aiming for a hundred shots here! This is wild I’ve never seen an exchange like this. Hiromu finally starts winning out! Hits the ropes, Ryu ducks a shot, runs for a meaty, mighty chop! Jesus!
Ryu dares him to respond and he does just that! Skin is tearing here!
This is not what their previous matches were like at all but this is intense as hell, Ryu with furious chops! Whip to the corner, running bit boot! To the opposite corner, Hiromu with a clothesline! Hits the ropes but Ryu pursues, and yet another chop! Just when you think it’s done! Hiromu responds and Ryu is happy to continue the volley! They really are not letting up. Hiromu with a hurricarana, just to set up another chop! The whole psychology is to make you think they’ve finished but it just keeps going! And it’s continuing in earnest now, they are looking for blood. This must be a record.
I kinda can’t believe I’ve been calling a chop exchange for pretty much this entire recap but that’s the state of this! Ryu finally hits a devastating on that lays Hiromu out and they are both spent on the mat! Ryu with a dropkick in the corner, into a Butterfly Backbreaker, sliding dropkick takes Hiromu to the outside! Hiromu stands on the apron, Ryu charges and leaps over the top rope for the mad man’s rana, sending Hiromu flying to the floor! Ryu sits Hiromu atop the barrier… for another damn chop! And then he goes into the ring. Oh man… hits the ropes, HE’S AN ABSOLUTE MISSILE ON A SUICIDE DIVE! They’re both sent not only over the barrier but over the table! Geeeeze! 20 count starts, Ryu tosses Hiromu over the barrier. At 15, Ryu rolls Hiromu into the ring, respectful applause. Ten minutes have passed.
Ryu wants a springboard but Hiromu superkicks him to the apron, hits the ropes, Sunset Flip Bomb sends Ryu onto the floor!
Hiromu takes him into the ring, hoists him onto his shoulders, Dynamite Crusher for a nearfall! Fireman’s Carry Drive to the corner, brutal! Hiromu pulls him up onto his shoulders again, but Ryu escapes, Powerbomb… but he hooks the head! Hiromu counters with a rana into the Triangle Choke! Ryu makes it to the ropes for the break. Hiromu charges, Ryu gets a boot up but he catches it, clothesline! Takes Ryu up top, chops him before pursuing. Ryu trips him up! Wants the diving double footstomp but Hiromu is able to avoid it! Ryu goes up top with him though… they’re exchanging forearms up there now. Ryu wins out and now Hiromu’s hung over the apron… but Ryu pulls him right back up! Hiromu Takahashi fights back, and now Ryu’s hung instead! But he fights back, headbutt has Hiromu hung and there’s the doublestomp taking him right into the apron and they both crash to the floor!
Ryu takes Hiromu back to the apron, but he escapes, thrust kick… Ryu with a pump knee, charges but Hiromu with an Overhead Belly To Belly sends him to the floor! Utter madness! Hiromu up top, Flying Senton to the floor! 20 count, Hiromu makes it in, Ryu Lee struggling… but at 19 he barely rolls in! Hiromu ducks a clothesline, Wheelbarrow German! Ryu bounces him off the ropes for a German of his own! Hiromu responds with another, they’re battling with Germans now, Hiromu sets one up with a superkick! Ryu just fights right back up though for two more! Ryu takes him up, suplex but Hiromu rolls through for a rana but Hiromu stacks him up, hoists him into the air, Buckle Bomb! Charges, but an Overhead Belly To Belly sends him crashing against the pad!
This match is every bit as wild and dangerous as anticipated.
Hiromu Takahashi takes Ryu Lee onto his shoulders, charges, Ryu escapes, Tombstone transitions until Ryu Lee nails the Dudebuster for a nearfall! There’s the twenty minutes announcement. Ryu takes Hiromu onto the top rope, kicks to the chest! Goes up top, Springboard Dropkick takes him to the mat! Hits the ropes, charging knee to the face! Covers, Hiromu weakly grabs the bottom rope to break! Ryu wants a Powerbomb, hooks the head… teasing the same spot that broke Hiromu’s neck, but he counters with the craziest Canadian Destroyer of all time for a nearfall! Running Fireman’s Carry Driver into the corner! Ryu with a sunset flip counter for a nearfall, big basement dropkick for a nearfall! Pulls him up, Ripcord Knee, but as he charges, Hiromu with another Canadian Destroyer! Time Bomb!! But no, that’s still not enough!! Hiromu pulls him up by the mask, just clobbers him with a brutal shot! Takes him up and a second Time Bomb finishes him off!
Winner: Hiromu Takahashi
Aaaand exhale.. holy crap. These two are so insane. One of these days they’re gonna have to let them headline a big show like this. They’re waaaaaay too hard to follow on most nights.
