WWE Monday Night Raw is about to conclude folks, with only the main event left to go – Randy Orton taking on Kevin Owens in a battle for Edge’s honor!
Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens
Orton takes him to the corner, Kevin reversed for a big chop. Punches and kicks and stomps take him down. Orton bails to avoid a cannonball, Kevin pursues and tosses him into the barricade and a cannonball against the barrier lands as well! Throws him into the ring and goes up top, but now Rollins and his boys appear on the stage. This distracts Owens and Orton clips him from behind as we go to commercial break. Orton tosses him around on the outside before throwing him into the ring. Randy with an arm wringer, Kevin fights his way to his feet. Whip, Orton with a boot to the face on a Back Body Drop attempt. Hammerlock cinched in. Takes him down to the mat and stomps on him.
We come back to see Orton continuing the heat segment, whip to the corner, Randy… doesn’t really charge, just kinda meanders vaguely his way and Kevin gets him with a superkick! Then out comes the Viking Raiders and Street Profits to go after Rollins’ group! They all fight their way through the crowd. Meanwhile Kevin goes up top but Orton crotches him. Pursues him up there and hooks for a superplex, Kevin fights out with shots to the ribs and legs. Exchange of strikes from the top rope. Owens with a headbutt sends Orton to the mat, he goes all the way up for a Senton Bomb! Rollins up on the apron, Kevin knocks him off but Orton gets Owens with a clothesline off the distraction.
Rollins grabs Owens’ ankle from the apron, he kicks him away, Orton gets a Draping DDT and covers – the ref makes a lightning quick fast count?!
Winner: Randy Orton
What the hell was that crap? Afterwards, the referee goes out there and checks on Rollins. Even Lawler is decrying this. Rollins grabs a couple of chairs! He slides them into the ring for Orton to try and bait a conchairto! Just says “You know what you want to do, let the voices speak to you” as Orton indeed puts a chair beneath Owens’ head and grabs another! But Orton turns over to Rollins and it lets Owens pop up, grab the chair and square off with Orton! Orton decides to bail, the referee pulls the chair from Kevin’s hands and is booing like crazy. Kevin grabs the ref by the collar and tosses him into the ring!
He rips off the ref shirt to reveal a Monday Night Messiah shirt. Rollins says he has nothing to do with that. Owens has the chair and is asking the crowd if they want him to use it, a deafening “Yes” chant! Owens decides against it, boos, pulls him to his feet… Stunner! “One More Time” chant as Rollins yells at him to stop, says that’s a good human being he’s attacking! Owens grabs a table from under the ring and sets it up in the middle. Powerbomb right through the table to a massive pop and Owens promises destruction for Rollins!
That was uh… definitely a different kind of Montreal riff, actually took me a moment to even realize that was the case. But a Canadian being screwed by a corrupt referee in Canada in WWE is never an accident. That said, this seemed to be much more effective than usual, so kudos to that.
