WWE Monday Night Raw is kicked off with Randy Orton making his entrance and as usual he’s got quite a bit of heat on him. We hear of a few things being advertised for later, Becky Lynch’s reaction to Shayna Baszler’s attack last week, plus Drew McIntyre vs. MVP. Orton himself of course has a No Holds Barred match with Matt Hardy tonight. Orton stands in the middle of the ring, absorbs the heat for a bit before showing the video of the segment last week.
Orton says tonight he’s supposed to face Matt Hardy in a No Holds Barred match but after what happened last week, that’s not gonna happen. Says even still, he thinks Matt is still talking to doctors in the back trying to get cleared but it is not going to happen. The Hardys are known for jumping from the highest of highs and falling to the lowest of lows, but even still… Matt’s music hits. He appears, but in street clothes and with a neckbrace on. Says instead of talking about him, why not explain why he tried to take away Edge’s second chance.
Still wants to know what in the hell is wrong with Randy Orton. “What the hell” chant!
Matt says he didn’t like it when he asked him that, so much that he wanted to make him feel the exact same way that he made Edge feel. He wanted to take his passion away from him. But you can’t, no one can. He’s not ready. And he came here tonight to fight you, and to the surprise of no one, the WWE doctors in the back won’t clear him to compete in a match tonight. But he’s a man of his word, he is here, Randy and much like Edge, he has grit. He has grit, he won’t quit, Matt Hardy will not die. Knock him and Edge down all he wants, they’ll get back up. He doesn’t know what the future holds for Matt Hardy but it won’t be determined on Randy’s terms, it’ll be on his.
Randy says he should’ve said goodbye while he could still leave the arena on his own two feet. Matt enters the ring and Randy asks what he’s gonna do. What could he do, he’s a sitting duck! Asks what he’d do if he decided to RKO him right where he stood. Matt doesn’t reply. Randy says he has balls but he doesn’t understand, no one will understand why he did what he did. From the bottom of his heart, he respects him but Edge, he doesn’t just respect, he loves him like a brother. Says he is truly sorry and drops the mic before making his leave.
He goes up to the stage… but starts to slip off his vest. Matt sees the attack coming, goes outside to grab a steel chair and gets into the ring with it! Dares him to get back in the ring. Randy makes his way back down the ramp. Slowly he goes up onto the apron… Matt swings the chair but Randy avoids it, hot shots Matt on the top rope, targeting the braced neck!
Rolls into the ring, chant of “RKO” as he stalks… Matt stands and gets taken down with an RKO.
Orton grabs the chair and drives the top of it into Matt’s chest over and over. Smacks him in the back with it. Sets the chair down on the mat, goes outside and takes up another. He puts a chair under Matt’s head and strips off the neck brace. Holds the other chair above his head as people demand he stop. He hesitates… turns and throws the chair away. Leaves the ring… only to slip around it and pull Matt to the outside! He pulls him over to the steps! Puts his head up against them and takes up a chair! Slams it against his head. Once again pretends to make his leave but he comes back to place Matt’s head on the stairs again and repeats the chair shot! Yells that he’s sorry before storming out.
