Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. Tag team action sees the OC, represented by Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows take on the Viking Raiders, Erik & Ivar. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
The OC (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) vs. The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
Of the ten matches advertised for this show, this bout appears to be the only one set for the Kickoff. Last time we were in Saudi Arabia, the OC won a multi-team gauntlet match for the right to be named the greatest tag team in the world. So, here’s what that gets you, a pre-show match a few months later based around a feud that basically ended over a month ago. It’s about right for how WWE treats tag teams, really. Coincidentally, they did last eliminate Erik & Ivar to achieve this, so perhaps it’s meant as a specific callback that the Saudi Arabian audience would recognize.
Either way. These two teams did feud over this result for a while to close out 2019, but as has been mentioned, they’ve pretty much moved on from this since. The Viking Raiders are much more focused on Seth Rollins’ group these days, having lost the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships to Rollins and Murphy and repeatedly teasing battles with AOP. Meanwhile the OC have really only been used as fodder for Ricochet to gain some momentum heading into his WWE Championship match with Brock Lesnar.
Still, tensions would probably still be high I suppose and they never exactly had a climactic finish to their rivalry. I guess we’re getting that here. I’ll say Viking Raiders over.
