Ever since Finn Balor returned to NXT only to turn on Johnny Gargano, fans have been eager to see them clash at an NXT Takeover event. It was supposed to happen at NXT Takeover War Games, but due to an injury, Gargano didn’t make it. Finn would instead face Matt Riddle, who he beat with ease. Gargano is now healthy once again, and nothing will stop him from getting payback at NXT Takeover Portland. On this weeks episode of NXT, they would exchange in a war of words as they would share interview time.
Finn Balor Wants To Prove He’s The King Of NXT
Ever since arriving in WWE, Finn Balor was set to be a major star. In NXT he had won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with Samoa Joe, and became the longest reigning NXT Champion in history at 293 days, with no one coming close to matching that number since he lost it. He was the face of NXT, their franchise player. Despite this, in 2016 he would leave NXT for Monday Night RAW. He would make an impact right away, becoming the first ever Universal Champion at that years Summerslam. In that match, he would injure his shoulder and that would force him to vacate the championship. That would set the tone for a disappointing run on the ‘main roster’. Because of that run, he has to prove himself once again in NXT. He has been doing that, but knocking off Johnny Gargano will prove he is still King.
Johnny Gargano Will Prove He’s The Best NXT Has Ever Had
The first man to win the NXT Triple Crown (NXT Championship, NXT Tag Team Championship, and NXT North American Championship), Gargano has been the face of the brand since he broke out of his slump after the initial breakup of DIY. Since then he has earned the name Johnny Takeover due to his gutsy performances in big matches. He is consistently in the best match on an NXT Takeover, which is something he carries great pride in. Despite this, he still ended up back in the shadow of Balor once he returned. A victory at Takeover will show that Gargano has surpassed Finn. He wants the Finn of old in the ring, not the one who lost to Bobby Lashley week after week. That statement got Balor fired up, and it could have been enough to trigger another side of Balor to come out at Portland.
