While it doesn’t feel like it sometimes, WWE does have a set of Women’s Tag Team Championships. Currently held by Kairi Sane & Asuka, the titles were last defended was in late December at TLC. During that match, Kairi was injured and Asuka would go on to chase the RAW Women’s Championship held by Becky Lynch. Because of all that, the Women’s Tag Team Championships have fallen to the background. With Asuka involved in the Elimination Chamber match to choose the challenger for Becky Lynch, it will be a bit before we see a feud pop up, but will it be a team from the past?
Pin Up Strong
Despite existing long before the Women’s Tag Team Championships came back into existence, Natalya & Beth Phoenix were as established as a tag team got during their time. The came back together to try to become the first champions at Wrestlemania 35, but The IIconics would leave with the gold and Pin Up Strong would fade away as Beth focused on commentary. After a strong run in the Royal Rumble, and an appearance set for a near Monday Night RAW, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Beth hop into the ring with her old friend once again to try again to become Tag Team Champions.
A Part Time Champion Wouldn’t Hurt
While Beth Phoenix is far from a full time talent, these titles are rarely defended regardless. So long as Beth shows up for a few matches to defend the title, it wouldn’t be hard for Pin Up Strong to match the average defense of a champion holding this title.
Should Kabuki Warriors Win?
While their antics as a tag team are great, they would be better used as singles stars. Asuka is one of the most dominant champions in WWE history, and Kairi is pound-for-pound one of the best in wrestling today. Unless they are going to truly put a focus on the division after Wrestlemania, it might be for the best to not have them hold the titles and instead focus on their singles careers. Some would mourn their loss, but I think most have forgotten they are a tag team anyways.
