Killer Kross is not the only free agent that WWE has scooped up this time. Former EVOLVE Champion Timothy Thatcher has signed a deal with WWE. Thatcher is an interesting grab for WWE, as he doesn’t exactly fit the mold of a usual WWE superstar. His signing was announced on WWE Backstage.
What To Expect From Timothy Thatcher
He is a throwback style of talent, someone who wouldn’t be out of place locking up with Bruno Sammartino in Madison Square Garden. He’s hard hitting, has an incredible mat wrestling game, and is just all around a tough bastard.
While he is unmatched in intensity in the ring, he has always been a bit dry in other departments. This was a long standing criticism for him. His style simply didn’t get him much attention in North America. Once he relocated to the United Kingdom, he became a star. His style is reminiscent of World Of Sport, making him a quick hit.
Will Thatcher Find A Home In NXT UK?
Seeing as his biggest market for being a star has been in the UK, it would make sense for him to get his start in NXT UK. There is history to explore there as well. Thatcher was a member of the Ringkampf faction, which has been rebranded as Imperium.
His technical savagery made him a natural fit alongside WALTER, as both an opponent and a partner. Their matches together gave a new definition to hard hitting. The peak came in Progress Wrestling, where they fought over the Atlas Championship (think an inverse of a Cruiserweight Championship), where WALTER notably chopped Thatcher in the face.
With both in WWE, fans are clamoring for another match between them, and that could be an excellent attraction at a future NXT UK Takeover.
Could He Work On RAW or Smackdown?
While he is a fairly dry wrestler in terms of charisma, if you put him with a manager he would be a great change of pace on the main roster. Someone like Drew Gulak would be an excellent fit, and also give a new tag team for WWE to work with. Thatcher’s more likely to work in NXT or NXT UK, but anything can happen in the WWE afterall.
