We all remember the Boogeyman’s short WWE run with varying feelings running the gambit, but one thing we can mostly agree on is that it was too short a run and was mishandled. With the rise of Bray Wyatt’s Fiend character, questions about will the Boogeyman return to the WWE?

Why he should come back
While the Boogeyman is as polarizing as the Fiend for some, he’s a great showman that can only add to the nightmarish elements the Fiend has brought back.
It’s been too long since we’ve had a legitimate Undertaker and Kane quality in the WWE. As they’ve aged and moved to other prospects, no one’s stepped up to fill the void they left. Or maybe no one was allowed to?
In Vince McMahon’s world, nightmare aspects are rarely given power except as a brief foil for a fan favorite face. Papa Shango was one such gimmick that wasn’t allowed to really shine. He became an attraction that was easily thwarted by the top faces. The Boogeyman suffered the same fate as he lost way more than he should’ve.
Given the WWE’s history, it’s surprising Bray Wyatt has had he success he’s had, but maybe that’s changing?
While the Boogeyman is older (Martin Wright is 55), he’s stayed in great shape and has shown he’s interested in coming back on his social media accounts.
But most importantly, for McMahon anyway, as shown in the above image, his merchandise is currently among the top sellers. If he’s selling that much being retired, imagine how much more could be going out if he was active.
Where would he fit in?
This is tricky, but not at the same time.
The WWE copies anything and everything that works elsewhere, as evidenced by the Monday Night Messiah and AEW’s Dark Order or former Nightmare Collective. The similarities are took close to ignore while Rollins’ faction is attempting to carve its own path.
The natural idea would be to put the Boogeyman on Raw so the darkest characters would be on separate shows, but that’s the safe and weakest choice, in my opinion.
Put the Boogeyman on Smackdown as a rival for the Fiend. He’d be billed as the “original nightmare” and take offense at being forgotten because of the Fiend’s antics and achievements — think Freddy vs. Jason.
It’d be an ongoing feud as they’d interfere during or after another’s match, often staring each other down for dominance, and only come together when attacked by the faces looking to abolish the darkness.
One thing I’d like to add, is this time, the Boogeyman would be a nightmarish force like the Fiend, since nightmares are rarely, if ever, conquered. He could still lose, but it’d be through nefarious means as few would be strong enough to defeat him legitimately. It’d take a great deal of punishment to be able to pin him, but even then it wouldn’t be guaranteed. Think of him more like Kane or a young Undertaker as he’d dish out a ton of damage and not stay down for long.
While this is purely a fan’s reaction and thought process, who wouldn’t want to see it? What are your thoughts? Should the Boogeyman be brought back and what should his storyline be?
